What is insomnia? Insomnia means you regularly have problems falling asleep, staying asleep or waking very early and then unable to get back to sleep. Some sufferers have a combination of the above. It isn't unusual to occasionally have a restless night...maybe you overate...drank to much red wine...have a business problem on your mind? This is not a problem until it becomes a regular pattern where you find more often that not you are unable to experience a quality nights sleep. By being unable to enjoy a quality, restful sleep, a person will wake feeling unrefreshed, sluggish, anxious and unable to perform effectively that day. What is the cause of insomnia? When we go to bed, in theory, we should be in a beautiful relaxed state. However it doesn't always work out that way...perhaps there is something troubling you...maybe you have money worries or perhaps relationship issues. Maybe consciously you feel quite positive about life but perhaps subconsciously you are stressed and anxious about a particular aspect of your life. Any of these feelings will interfere with the natural process of sleep. Do you suffer from his is what is known as early-morning-waking syndrome? This is where you wake up in the early hours of the morning and are then unable to get back to sleep. This is one of the most common insomnia issues that I come across in my clinic. This pattern of disturbed sleep, if it continues over an extended period of time, will cause a person to become anxious before they even get into bed, subconsciously convincing themselves that they will have a poor nights sleep. This pattern of behaviour then becomes a hard to break habit and continues even if the original cause of the insomnia is no longer present. How may hypnotherapy help insomnia? Insomnia sufferers have historically turned to medication or natural herbal remedies. Short term, these products may help but their effectiveness will reduce over time resulting in increased dosages in an attempt to maintain benefit Hypnotherapy approaches insomnia in a totally different way - It is a combination of many techniques that include finding the root cause of the anxiety together with relaxation exercise to allow sleep to come much more easily. Hypnosis for insomnia has no harmful side effects and helps a person develop regular and healthy sleeping patterns, waking refreshed and ready for the day.
