Fear of Flying
What causes a fear of flying?
It is generally accepted that a fear of flying is one of the most common phobias. There has been much research which has found that up to 40 percent of passengers on a plane have some degree of anxiety about an aspect of the flight.
There are many reasons for this fear...
...sometimes it can be claustrophobia with a fear of enclosed spaces and the 'trapped' feeling.
...it may also a fear of 'not being in control'
...some are fearful of takeoff and landing in case the plane crashes
...others are scared of turbulence...either the stomach churning vomit inducing feeling or fear that something is wrong with the plane.
Traditional fear of flying courses seem to concentrate on the fear of the plane crashing but as you can see from the list above, this may not be the reason for a person to be scared.
As you can see, helping a person to overcome Fear of Flying is therefore not a straight-forward process and requires specialist therapy
